Traveling is always like a dream for all of us since we were kids, to see new

places, experience exotica and different cultures.

China has been one of my dreamlands when I read the Lost Horizon by

James Hilton and watched the Last Emperor.

The splendid Great Wall, the magnificent Forbidden City, the fabulous

Terracotta Warriors, the picturesque Li River, the Giant Buddha, Potala

Palace, the Giant Pandas,…etc. And if you want to work with a local travel

service within China, which one you could trust?

my friend, I want to say if you are not working for chinese travel services, i think you are a lovely man. Have you been travelled to china many times?

You know your description is quite right. I am writing here just want to offer another way. I have many foreign friends from Belguim, Amarica, Japan and so on. Every time, when they come to China, I travel together with them and to be their guider here.

So my idea: If you want to know what is China and where to go, what to say, how to eat, the best way is to have a chinese guider.

i'll be traveling for the first time to china soon. it's a business / pleasure trip. i'm mostly interested in the history of China. i'll be traveling with people, but to find a local to offer us some real insight would be great. Eleanor Burr, you offered some excellent places to check out (a few we already had on our list). And Ice Road, maybe you could post a few things you know about, being a local, that us tourists wouldn't know about.
accommodations is one big thing i'm curious about. we've only got one destination scheduled so far. that's the canton fair hotel. we'll be there a few days.
any further thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Sam
